Medical Outreach

Medical clinics have been an ongoing part of Open Arms’ outreach to the Eldoret community since our first visit there in 2002.   Several times a year we hold medical and dental clinics where those in the area can receive the care they need but don't otherwise have access to.  In Kenya, the vast majority of people can not get health care because of where they live or because they cannot afford it.

Generally our clinics are held in conjunction with our Outreach team visits.  Setting up in big tents, we check blood pressure, pull abscessed teeth, treat common skin problems and stomach ailments, and dispense needed medications.  We also counsel on good dental hygiene and nutrition, passing out hundreds of tooth brushes and children’s vitamin pills.  More serious issues, like broken bones, are referred to the local hospital.

On a busy day we may treat as many as 500 people.  In 2011, Open Arms medical camps provided health care treatment to over 2,400 who would not have otherwise received care.

Evangelism is also a big part of our medical outreach effort, as we wish to see people not only physically well, but also healed spiritually.  We hold evangelistic services as part our medical camps, and have begun routing waiting patients through the prayer tent prior to their entering the diagnosis room.   Often, the Great Physician will make it unnecessary for them to see one of our visiting doctors, dentists, or nurses.

To help with our medical efforts please consider joining a team (we especially need doctors, dentists, nurses, and dental hygienists), supporting us financially, or making a donation of needed medical products and supplies.
