Long-Term Missionary Positions

With the expansion of the Open Arms Village comes a need for professional volunteers to donate their time and talents in Kenya for one to two years.

If you are interested in becoming a long-term missionary with Open Arms International and can fill one of these specific areas of need, please contact Camille Cotton at 503-296-9989 or camille@openarmsinternational.com.

Areas of Need

Teacher
Preschool, kindergarten, elementary and middle school teachers needed to teach at the Open Arms Academy. There are currently 39 children at our Academy, ages 4 through 15. Many of our children come from traumatic backgrounds, and are thus either behind in school or have developed learning disabilities. Teachers who are sensitive to these issues are desired.

Child Psychologist, Social Worker or Counselor
Each of our children has some sort of trauma in his or her background, some more than others. In order to care for their whole being, we recognize the need for dedicated professionals who can work with each child individually on healing those past hurts and traumas. We welcome child psychologists, social workers and counselors to help our children heal.

Maintenance (plumbing, electricity, etc.)
Our Village consists of five large children’s home (housing 18 people each), three guest houses (housing eight people each) and a school. We have a transformer for electricity, a well for water, and indoor plumbing and electricity in each home. Village maintenance staff is needed to address issues as they arise and keep our Village up and running.

CPA/Accountant
The Open Arms Kenya office needs an accountant or business finance professional who can mentor our staff accountant for at least one year. The staff accountant is responsible for properly accounting for all projects in Kenya. Mentoring regarding financial reporting to supporting management and Open Arms boards is a major focus. OAI Kenya is growing and needs assistance in setting up accounting systems for retail sales, farm product sales, and indirect cost accounting.

Videographer and Photographer
We are always in need of professional photographs and videos to help tell the story of Open Arms. If you are willing to make the trip, this volunteer position would be short-term, approximately one to two weeks depending on your availability and the amount of footage that needs to be shot. We also need volunteers to edit and produce the footage into ministry DVDs.
